"It" girl Jeffry Cudlin featured in DC Mag this month

Jeffry Cudlin was one of ten really great DC-based artists I got to write about for the latest issue of DC Magazine. Says Jeffry:

Of course I was immensely flattered...and when photographer Joshua Cogan called me to arrange shooting my portrait for the mag, I simply daubed on a little eyeliner, pulled on my fav purple tights, shimmied into whatever playful party dress happened to be lying around...and hopped onto my trusty pink scooter to meet him in Chinatown--the perfect backdrop with which to express my heritage, you see.

He was so excited about the shoot, he forgot to shave his legs.

About the author:

Choosing only 10 artists for the "Arts & Power" issue proved more difficult for The Pink Line Project's Chief Creative Contrarian Philippa P.B. Hughes than she'd anticipated. "In a city defined by its power players, artists play a vital and powerful role in upholding our cultural identity and reminding us of what it means to be human," says Hughes. "Writing this piece fulfilled one of the great joys in life, spending time with the most creative and interesting minds in society: artists."

The other nine fabulous artists: DC51, Matthew Mann, Ryan Hill, Zach Storm, Patrick McDonough, Nekisha Durette, Will Knipscher, Brandon Morse, Lily DeSaussure.

Read all about them HERE, or pick up a hard copy of DC Magazine on the newsstands.

UPDATE on December 3, 2009:

The Washington City Paper weighs in on Cudlin's Performance. Writes Maura Judkis, "To someone not in the know, it looks like Cudlin is biting the hand that feeds him, considering that he was Hughes’ first pick in her article for the magazine highlighting the ten best young artists."

Read the rest of the article HERE, which makes it sound like Jeffry has a whole marketing plan mapped out for his show at Flashpoint in June.  I doubt he has a clue on this point.
