Industry Gallery: an industrial debut!

"Engagement Chairs" by Shlomo Harush

The District’s newest gallery is kicking off its inaugural debut in hand crafted style this Saturday, January 16, 6-8pm. Industry Gallery is a 4,300 square-foot industrial H-Street gallery that specializes in 21st century design, especially functional art from industrial materials. It will hold temporary, single-artist exhibitions selected for their ability to illuminate a broad spectrum of international design.

Industry’s grand opening features work by Israeli-born artist Shlomo Harush, whose exhibit “Round the Corner” showcases twenty unique stainless steel and aluminum works that examine different sculptural aspects of conventional seating units.

While this is Harush’s first U.S. solo show, he has had quite a prolific career. He has been creating sculptural works since 1990, which have been included in various private collections, as well as the print advertising campaign for Dolce & Gabanna’s Winter 2007-2008 women’s collection.

Industry Gallery owner Craig Appelbaum says, “Harush’s work, which weds the physicality of industrial materials with intriguing and innovative design, was chosen for the gallery’s inaugural exhibition because it well represents exciting trends in 21st century design.”

Harush’s “Round the Corner” will run from January 16 – March 6, 2010.

Industry Gallery is located at 1358 Florida Avenue, NE – above Conner Contemporary Art.
